TÈ BIC

Choreographing the memory of Bas-Saint-Laurenté

Year of research and creation: 2021-2022
World premiere: 2022, Musée de Rimouski in collaboration with Théâtre des gens d'en bas
Specialists interviewed: 1 harvester, 1 trawlerman, 1 ground-glass farmer, 1 energeticist, 1 sculptor and 4 territory specialists

In summer 2022, Rhodnie Désir anchors herself in the heart of the Bas-Saint-Laurent to create links between the land, the people and her body. From conversation to conversation, she collects the result of the interviews to deliver a unique work of memory: TÈ BIC.

Farmers, artists, entrepreneurs, artisans, patrimony specialists... the choreographer documents the meaning of this land. The first of a long series of works focused on the environment, Rhodnie collaborates here with an artist with the minimalist signature: Tom Jacques. Their approaches are similar in the simplicity of the gesture, both musical and danced. Rhodnie Désir's approach evolves between the writing of several bodies: composition, improvisation, interpretation and scenography. Their collaboration allows the transformation of the collected testimonies into a work of memory relating the perceptible movements of the territory.

"The human, the social movements, it is at the junction of my questioning as an artist." - Rhodnie Désir

“What is gained here, in this Symphony of Hearts, is an art of influences and benevolence carried by the multiple identities of bodies and minds that want peace.” - JEU magazine (Canada)
